The sources here represent a variety of different approaches to understanding the complex music landscape during 1970’s Brazil. There are multiple examples of songs that avoided government censorship and one that resulted in its writer being exiled. There are also copies of documents that were essential in giving the government the power to censor, including Institutional Act Five and the 1967 Constitution. There is an interview with a major figure in the 1970’s Brazilian music scene and several journal articles written about events in Brazil as they were happening. This loose collection of sources contain information that can be put together into a picture of the conflicts within popular Brazilian music in the 1970’s.
